The Duo ReCuerda was founded at the beginning 2003, when the
musicians met at the Musikhochschule (Conservatory) Cologne, in
Wuppertal. In the same year they went on their first concert tour to
Madeira, and since then they are regularly active on stage
domestically and abroad. Both are much in demand as lecturers for
their instruments; they teach and give concerts regularly at seminars
and festivals. Their repertoire consist of Ancient and Classical Music
on historical replicas (Biedermeier guitar, baroque mandolin) as well as
the interpretation of Romantic and Contemporary Music. Several
composers already wrote pieces dedicated to the Duo, including the
“Suite for mandolin and guitar” (Op. 40) by Burkhard Wolters, which
was recorded on this CD. The title of the piece “Montuno” comes from
the first movement. The expression “Montuno” refers to the Cuban
Sierra Maestra, the eastern mountain range of Cuba and represent an
instrumental part of Cuban Music as well as a special style of dancing,
the so-called “Son”.
The CD “Montuno” is the second recording of the Duo ReCuerda.
Their debut CD was published in May 2008 by Trekel Records.
